At Overdale Junior School (OJS), we provide a Physical Education (PE) curriculum that aims to inspire all children to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities. Our PE approach will centre around six features of meaningful experiences. Beni et al (2017) class these as social interaction, fun, challenge, motor competence, personally relevant learning and delight.
Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities will be offered to all children in order to build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect. Additionally, children’s perspectives on enjoyable PE are highly relevant in designing meaningful PE lessons (Harvey et al., 2018) and thusly, our PE curriculum is constantly developing. Through PE, we aim to develop the children’s knowledge, skills and understanding, so that they can perform with increasing confidence and competence in a range of physical activities. We aim to improve health and well-being, promote active participation and lifelong learning, and for each child to fulfil their potential.

Each week, children have 2 PE lessons. One lesson is with either the class teacher or our specialist sports coach Mr Stevens. The second lesson is a fitness based session which takes place on a Friday and (subject to weather) takes place outside led by Mr Stevens.
Our PE lead is Mr Barwell.
