We aim to deliver a high-quality languages education that fosters pupils’ curiosity and deepens their understanding of the world. We believe that learning a foreign language provides valuable educational, social, and cultural experiences by enabling pupils to communicate with others, explore different cultures, and develop a broader understanding of the world around them. Through learning French, pupils develop the knowledge and skills needed to become confident communicators and continue their language learning journey into Key Stage 3 and beyond.
Our Intent
- To develop confidence in communicating in another language: We develop pupils’ listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills so they can understand and respond to French with increasing confidence and accuracy.
- To build strong foundations in phonics, vocabulary and grammar: Pupils learn key sound-writing relationships, high-frequency vocabulary, and essential grammatical structures that enable them to communicate successfully in French.
- To develop oracy and accurate pronunciation: Regular opportunities for speaking and listening help pupils develop accurate pronunciation and fluency in spoken French.
- To foster curiosity about language and culture: Our curriculum introduces pupils to French culture and traditions while encouraging an interest in languages and the wider French-speaking world.
- To prepare pupils for future language learning: We provide pupils with the knowledge and skills needed for a smooth transition into Key Stage 3 language study.
