Pupil Leadership Roles

At Overdale Junior School, we believe that every child can make a positive contribution to our school community. Our pupil leadership roles help children develop confidence, responsibility, communication skills and leadership qualities while promoting the Overdale Way.

These roles give pupils the opportunity to represent their classmates, support school improvement and help shape the life of the school.

Children can apply to be part of the Junior Leadership Team by expressing interest in one of the specific roles. As part of the process, they will have the opportunity to take part in a democratic selection, helping them understand the importance of pupil voice, fairness, and responsibility in school life.

Class Ambassador

Class Ambassadors are proud representatives of their class and play an important role in welcoming visitors and showcasing life at Overdale.

What does a Class Ambassador do?

Class Ambassadors:

  • Welcome visitors into our classroom.
  • Help visitors feel comfortable and explain what we are learning.
  • Represent their class during special events.
  • Support with school tours and open events when appropriate.
  • Share ideas and feedback to ensure pupil voice is heard.
  • Promote the Overdale Way and model our school values.

What qualities does a Class Ambassador need?

A Class Ambassador should:

  • Be a positive role model.
  • Demonstrate excellent behaviour at all times.
  • Be confident when speaking to others.
  • Be friendly, polite and welcoming.
  • Be responsible and trustworthy.
  • Show the Overdale Way in everything they do.

School Council

The School Council Representative is the voice of the pupils. They collaborate to share ideas, discuss improvements and help make a positive difference to our school.

What does a School Councillor do?

School Councillors:

  • Attend School Council meetings and contribute positively.
  • Represent the views and ideas of their classmates.
  • Share information from meetings with their class.
  • Help identify ways to improve our school community.
  • Work with other councillors on school projects and charity events.
  • Help ensure that pupil voice informs decisions within the school.

What qualities does a School Councillor need?

A School Councillor should:

  • Be a positive role model for others.
  • Listen carefully to the views of their classmates.
  • Be confident in sharing ideas and opinions respectfully.
  • Be responsible and committed to attending meetings.
  • Work effectively as part of a team.
  • Show leadership, initiative and a willingness to help others.
  • Demonstrate the Overdale Way in all that they do.

Our Wider JLT Roles

At Overdale Junior School, our Junior Leadership Team gives pupils the opportunity to develop leadership skills while making a real difference in school life. Each member takes on a specific role, supporting school values and helping to create a positive, inclusive, and caring environment.

Anti-Bullying Ambassadors
Promote kindness and respect across the school. They lead anti-bullying campaigns, support peers, and help raise awareness about how to build a safe and welcoming school community.

Eco-Rangers
Lead environmental initiatives such as recycling, energy-saving, and gardening projects. They inspire others to care for the planet and help keep our school eco-friendly.

Playground Activity Supervisors
Help make break times fun and inclusive by leading games and encouraging everyone to join in. They promote fair play and support children on the playground.

Student Librarians
Support the running of the school library by organising books, helping classmates choose reading material, and promoting a love of reading through events and activities.

Sports Leaders
Our Sports Leaders supporting sporting events across the school such as ‘Sports Day’ as well as sporting activities during lunchtime.
