Geography

At Overdale Junior School, our children develop a greater understanding and knowledge of the world, as well as their place in it, through the fantastic curriculum that we have on offer.

Through our studies, we aim to encourage both enthusiasm and curiosity for the subject as well as an appreciation of the similarities and differences in the world around them.

We want our children to confidently identity human and physical features, their impact and interdependence. Our bespoke curriculum ensures students have an awareness and understanding of places, processes, resources and people, on a variety of scales.

Geography is taught fortnightly throughout every term. We plan and teach in this way as research and evidence shows that spaced practice is a better approach than ‘blocking’ units of work: if you repeat and build on learning over time, then you are more likely to remember a lot more.

Please see our Geography Knowledge Organisers which outline the core knowledge children will be taught and expected to learn.

Mrs Malkin is our Geography subject lead.
